Class Schedule
Writing a novel may seem a daunting task, but it’s an attainable goal. The eight-week workshop will cover topics designed to aid the student in preparing for the journey and the craft elements that will transcend their material into a readable work of art. We’ll discuss the current state of the publishing industry and the opportunities for writers during a time of evolutionary change. Most importantly, you will learn the challenge and need for peer critique. Each writer will have up to ten pages of their work discussed in class. This workshop will be of benefit to students who have minimal or limited experience in writing. Mostly, it’s an opportunity to join a community that’s like no other.

This advanced workshop is for writers who have written a significant number of chapters of a novel. As the book begins to take shape, students will have the opportunity to discuss their work in a structured environment designed to provide feedback in areas of development and key craft issues such as dialogue, pacing, narrative distance, character development, world building, and other areas critical to the success of completing a publishable work of fiction. Each student will participate in discussions and critiques of each other’s work, including their own. Drafts of up to forty pages will be submitted two weeks prior to the first class session and disseminated to the other class members. Students are advised to read: Toxic Feedback: Helping Writers Survive and Thrive, by Joni Cole.
